Local notes —

The site is in Cangkuang village, Leles district, Garut Regency. The pin marks an OpenStreetMap parking point on the arrival side of the Situ Cangkuang visitor area, near the access road; it is not an operator-confirmed temple building, ticket office or landing stage. Check the onward route to the temple, raft services, tickets and current visiting hours with site staff before travelling.

Follow visitor routes and staff guidance. Respect places of worship and residents’ activities in Kampung Pulo; ask permission before photographing people or entering homes. The temple photographs document 28 May 2017 (photos 1–2) and 11 November 2011 (photo 3), rather than present conditions.

The provisional AI reference rating of 3.7/5 uses the aggregate of 79 reviews on Tripadvisor’s Cangkuang Temple attraction page, checked directly on 7 October 2026. The method uses one source on the same scale, with no added weighting or invented confidence score. It is not a firsthand assessment, a separate Kampung Pulo score or a Floopel user rating.

Why it matters

At Situ Cangkuang, a visit to the lake also opens a window onto Garut’s past. The Hindu temple in Cangkuang village, Leles, is a stepped stone structure set among trees. Researchers estimate its origins to the seventh or eighth century; the discovery of a Shiva statue is one clue to its religious background.

Nearby is Kampung Pulo, a customary settlement with six houses and a mosque. Their proximity gives a visit two connected perspectives: archaeological heritage and the community life that continues around it. Take time to listen to the site staff, then explore the buildings while respecting residents’ space.
