A white arch on the southern route of the Yogyakarta palace carries a story of boundaries and protection. Plengkung Gading, originally named Nirbaya, belongs to the palace defensive system described by Museum Sonobudoyo. Its thick walls and gateway form give context to the transition between the area inside the fortification and the road beyond it. A November 2018 photograph shows scaffolding and a repair notice, documenting one stage in maintaining this historic structure. The notice applies to the time of the photograph; it does not establish that the gate or road is closed today.
